Hidden Gems #1 – Khow Thai

Galway has such a large variety of restaurants to choose from however not all of them are as easy to find. We’ve decided to start a ‘Hidden Gems’ series of blogs discussing some of our preferred places to eat that are considered to be off the beat and track. Firstly, what would you say if we told you that one of the nicest Thai Restaurants is currently in operation in Liosbaun Industrial estate? I’m talking about a place called Khow Thai.22490208_1967868576866556_926492584814557220_n

Khow Thai is an authentic Thai restaurant focusing on simple dining in-house while catering for takeaway, collection and home delivery at great prices. Providing a truly authentic Thai experience, they use only the freshest ingredients and products from unique Thai suppliers to create authentic Traditional Thai dishes.

In the kitchen, all of the chefs are Thai Nationals ensuring you will experience all the sounds, smells, and tastes of Thailand. Their prices are extremely pleasing too it must be said, for example, their starters range from Spicy Chili Squid at €6 to the more tempting €5.50 for 6 hours roasted Prok Ribs.

In the end, whatever you do choose, you won’t be disappointed. Let us know if you have any suggestions of what you would consider a ‘Hidden Gem’ and remember to subscribe through your email so you get updates on all the best eateries in Galway.

8 Places To Eat In Salthill

With the Ed Sheeran craze sweeping through Galway like wildfire, we thought we would put together a short list of places to eat in Salthill if you are out there early over the weekend. It’s worth noting that these are listed in no particular order

1. Ground & Co

Simply everyone is talking about Ground & Co. The guys behind Mr Waffle have taken Salthill by storm since it’s opening. With the bus running from Eyre Sq to Salthill for the concert, it will leave you near its location so expect it to be busy. With a selection of sandwiches, treats baked in-house, breakfasts and a full coffee menu, this place ticks all the right boxes.19105760_180434499259437_5920074545718949706_n

2. LANA Asian Street Food

Depending on the time of day and your taste buds, of course, LANA offers you a different option than most places currently opened in Salthill. Their food philosophy is to be fresh, vibrant and bold, you’ll find all three in abundance here. Keep an eye on their social media channels before you pop in as along with their usual menu they have delicious specials added from time to time

3. Da Roberta’s Ristorante

Are you bringing the family along with you? Da Roberta’s Ristorante is the place for you. Serving fresh Italian Pizza & Pasta, they have been one of the main attractions to the Salthill food scene for a number of years.rgf.PNG

4. SALT Restaurant & Bar

Wings, Crab Donuts, Burgers, Salads & Dinner plates, you’ll find them all at SALT. Having just announced on their Facebook page that they will be staying open late on both Saturday & Sunday Night, a stop off here is a necessity if you plan on staying put in Salthill for the weekend.

5. Gourmet Tart & Co

If I was to say that Gourmet Tart & Co were excited for Ed Sheeran’s return to Galway, it would be a massive understatement.32218663_1833943913336710_2683004943836643328_n.jpg

If you have a sweet tooth or you just want to grab something small to keep you going, this is your stop.

6. Oslo Bar

Now if you’re looking for the best of both worlds, i.e a pint & some grub, Oslo Bar has you covered. Their sharing boards ranging from €13 – €17 make the ideal accompaniment for their range of craft beers.

7. O’Reilly’s Bar & Kitchen

O’Reilly’s Bar & Kitchen, formerly known as Lohan’s, have prepared a number of specials for the weekend including ‘The Cheerin for Sheeran Chicken Burger’ and the ‘Curry in a Hurry’. They’ll have a special Ed Sheeran karaoke later in the evening if you have any notions about your singing ability.

8. Salthill Social

The Salthill Social proclaims itself as the ‘Best brunch in Salthill’ and comes complete with a children’s play area. They may be the stand out when it comes to the healthier option for this salad alone30726546_2032996123399787_5757987827379863552_n.jpg

Fat Freddy’s Restaurant

Just before Christmas after extensive amounts of shopping and with a willingness to do anything in my power to avoid an endless line of bumper to bumper traffic, I decided to take a pit-stop from the hustle of Christmas shopping. I found myself at Fat Freddy’s Restaurant Galway Ireland. Fat Freddys is a local mainstay and has been serving top quality food circa 30+ years from the heart of Galway otherwise known as The Latin Quarter Galway.

One of the very few restaurants whom successfully passed the trial of the test of time, it is renowned for hosting an authentic feel of a New York Diner. Serving a variety of Italian cuisine options, they specialise their variety of pizzas & pasta – trust me they are specialists!

I opted for the large Pizza and their famous Chicken Wings.

Whilst usually Pizza wouldn’t be my candid option, this isn’t your run of the mill dish. It’s thin crust is perfectly complemented with top quality ingredients along with being cooked to perfection which created the perfect pizza. I both relished my experience and would highly recommend a visit.

(Just look at that sign – amazing!)

I don’t believe these guys take reservations so just pop in and their friendly staff will allocate an area#GalwayGrub
