Christmas Comfort Food

With Christmas just around the corner, Galway City is manic with shoppers from early morning until late evening. With the last minute rush on to keep loved ones and family members happy with well thought out gifts, it can be difficult to squeeze in some home cooking at the same time. Fear not, however, we’ve put together a few suggestions of what you can do to cure your hunger.

McHughs Traditional Bar & Restaurant

A relatively new kid on the block in ways, McHughs Traditional Bar & Restaurant has been under new management since the Summertime when a major revamp of the building took place. With a warm atmosphere, open fire and a delicious menu, you can see why it has become a firm favourite of people all across Galway. What’s better, is that it’s outside of the City so you can always avoid the craziness of town. This will work particularly in your favour if you’re heading anywhere out of the City that means you travel on the Tuam Rd. Simply pop in for a bite to eat and wait for the traffic to ease off!46505766_2130686676961562_1809613478655164416_n

Christmas Markets

Of course one of the highlights from every Christmas of late has been the wonderful Christmas Markets in Eyre Square. Often criticised for its food heavy theme, this time it will well and truly play into your favour. With burger vans, crepe stalls and so much more on offer, you can grab something quick and get back to the shops.ferris-wheel-christmas-market1

The Dough Bros

I’d expect this one to be fairly busy but with two locations in the city, grabbing one of the nicest Pizzas in Galway might be just the treat you deserve.

Fat Freddy’s

With over 30 years in the heart of Galway under their belt, anyone who has ever spent some time in Galway has visited Fat Freddy’s. With a large variety of options including Pizza, Pasta and salads, Fat Freddy’s is well worth a stop off. Vegans rejoice as they also have a range of Vegan options on their menu.

BóTOWN

Craft Burgers & Beers await you at BóTown on Dominick Street. While it may not be a place you have heard of just yet, trust us when we say it’s a well-needed addition to the Galway food scene. After a couple of years working on restoring glory to their building, it finally opened in the last few months much to the joy of anyone who has tried their food.

The Top 5 Pizza Places in Galway

It is fair to say that in Galway we are blessed with an amazing amount of wonderful restaurants. Throughout the city and it’s outskirts, you’ll find something for everyone to enjoy. Pizza is a firm favourite treat for most people, ourselves included, so we have put together this list of the ‘Top 5 Pizzas Places in Galway’. They are, in no particular order;

1. The Dough Bro’s Wood Oven Fired Pizza

No discussion around the best Pizza in Galway would be complete without The Dough Bro’s. Now entering their 5th year of business, the story of how Eugene & Ronan set up their now famous business is one we’re all familiar with. Thier Pizza is legendary, as is their unbeatable customer service and charm.IMG_1906

2. Pizza Napoli

If you have ever ventured to Galway’s Latin Quater on a night out, you will surely have stopped off at Pizza Napoli afterward. Not to be confused with a typical place you only visit after a night on the town, Pizza Napoli are specialists at what they do. Each slice is a mammoth portion in itself and you can take it with you and sit at the Spanish Arch on a nice day. 35742274_2134851853400820_3213784355260334080_o
