With Christmas just around the corner, Galway City is manic with shoppers from early morning until late evening. With the last minute rush on to keep loved ones and family members happy with well thought out gifts, it can be difficult to squeeze in some home cooking at the same time. Fear not, however, we’ve put together a few suggestions of what you can do to cure your hunger.
A relatively new kid on the block in ways, McHughs Traditional Bar & Restaurant has been under new management since the Summertime when a major revamp of the building took place. With a warm atmosphere, open fire and a delicious menu, you can see why it has become a firm favourite of people all across Galway. What’s better, is that it’s outside of the City so you can always avoid the craziness of town. This will work particularly in your favour if you’re heading anywhere out of the City that means you travel on the Tuam Rd. Simply pop in for a bite to eat and wait for the traffic to ease off!
Of course one of the highlights from every Christmas of late has been the wonderful Christmas Markets in Eyre Square. Often criticised for its food heavy theme, this time it will well and truly play into your favour. With burger vans, crepe stalls and so much more on offer, you can grab something quick and get back to the shops.
I’d expect this one to be fairly busy but with two locations in the city, grabbing one of the nicest Pizzas in Galway might be just the treat you deserve.
With over 30 years in the heart of Galway under their belt, anyone who has ever spent some time in Galway has visited Fat Freddy’s. With a large variety of options including Pizza, Pasta and salads, Fat Freddy’s is well worth a stop off. Vegans rejoice as they also have a range of Vegan options on their menu.
Craft Burgers & Beers await you at BóTown on Dominick Street. While it may not be a place you have heard of just yet, trust us when we say it’s a well-needed addition to the Galway food scene. After a couple of years working on restoring glory to their building, it finally opened in the last few months much to the joy of anyone who has tried their food.
